Her current research interests include music education for children birth to age 8, music education for classroom teachers, and interdisciplinary instruction aligning literacy and music for students of all ages.

Susanne is professionally active in a variety of music associations and is a frequent national and international conference presenter. Her most recent presentation for the International Society for Music Education in Glasgow, Scotland included collaboration with colleagues from Sydney, Australia and London, UK reporting findings of a study addressing musicianship among generalist primary teachers.

Her husband, John, is a recently retired professor of theatre from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga specializing in lighting design and technical direction. They have three lovely daughters, two great sons-in-law, and two beautiful granddaughters (practically perfect in every way).
