A faculty member at Lee since 1966, Philip Morehead holds the BM degree in Music Education from the University of Chattanooga and the MM degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Tennessee. Additional undergraduate training was pursued at Ohio State University, Florida State University, and the Berklee College of Music. Postgraduate study includes work at the University of Miami and Northwestern University.His current responsibilities at Lee include: teaching trumpet, music theory, and instrumental method courses; coaching chamber music ensembles; and serving as the Coordinator of Studies in Instrumental Music.Prior to his appointment at Lee, Morehead taught in the Dade County (Miami), Florida public school system.In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Morehead has been very active as a performer. For nearly thirty years he held the position of Principal Trumpet with the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera Association. He also was a founding member of the Chattanooga Brass Quintet. As a freelance musician Morehead has performed in a backup role to many of the nation’s leading entertainers. His resume spans a wide range of musical styles including: rock, country, jazz, circus, rodeo, and Broadway shows. He began playing the cornet in church at the age of six and continues to perform sacred music in a wide variety of religious denominations.Morehead is a member of the International Trumpet Guild and the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors.He is a native of Leadington, Missouri.
