Michael Brownlee, a music graduate of Lee ('73), joined the music faculty in 1980. He customarily teaches Applied Piano, Piano Pedagogy/Literature, and Graduate Piano Proficiency.
Brownlee is the Coordinator of Keyboard Studies for the School of Music and is a nationally certified piano teacher through the Music Teachers National Association. He is a member of the Tennessee Music Teachers Association, Ocoee Music Teachers Association and the National Piano Guild. He also holds membership in Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society and is listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. He is a past member of the Tennessee Music Teachers Executive Board. Mr. Brownlee also adjudicates many piano competitions particularly those held through the Tennessee Music Teachers Association and the American Federation of Music Teachers. He has produced numerous piano solo winners in the Lee University Marley Honors Recital and in the Tennessee Music Teachers Association High School and Collegiate Piano Competitions. Active on campus as a pianist and organist for special events, Brownlee also serves as pianist at his home church, Westmore Church of God. Brownlee enjoys musical activities, tennis, basketball and family activities. He is originally from Laurens, South Carolina, and he and his wife, Gloria, Director of Supported Learning at Lee, have two children, Chet and Gigi.
