    Dr. Joseph Daft, assistant professor of biology and health science, joined Lee’s faculty in January 2015. He earned his doctorate from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in pathology with a focus on diabetes-based pathology and immunology. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Juniata College. Daft served as a graduate research assistant and teaching assistant while at UAB. He has also been a Research Fellow at the University of Toledo and an adjunct professor at the University of Montevallo.

     

    Dr. Daft is interested in research projects involving the regulation of antimicrobial peptides and how they influence bacterial colonization of the gastrointestinal tract.  He is in the process of starting a student driven research project and will be looking for interested students soon.  Dr. Daft has also recently become a faculty sponsor for Tri Beta, the national biological honor society.  Outside of Lee, Dr. Daft is a member of a men’s discipleship group at Trinity Presbyterian Church that is focused on building and encouraging future leaders in the church.  In the future he hopes to lead his own group with members from Trinity and students from Lee.
