Dr. John Hearn, an Assistant Professor of Chemistry, was formerly a chemist at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Tyndall Air Force Base. Dr. Hearn earned his PhD from the University of Georgia, and has also served as a biochemistry laboratory technician and a graduate teaching assistant in chemistry.

Hearn directs research projects in the area of physical chemistry, in which students measure quantities such as equilibrium constants, thermodynamic variables, and reaction rate constants.  Much of this research activity happens in a research course, but Dr. Hearn also works with second and third year students interested in pursuing research.  One ongoing project is the deposition of concentrated gases.  Dr. Hearn also seeks external funding for projects, so stipends may be available.
