    Dr. Debra Mimbs, an Associate Professor of Mathematics, earned her PhD in applied and computational mathematics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She teaches courses about Mathematical Modeling, Calculus, Logic, and Analysis, and her research interests include laminations, fractals, and topology. Dr. Mimbs has published research in such publications as Transactions of the American Mathematical Society.  She currently directs or co-directs multiple grants involving undergraduate research and promoting the awareness of the beauty of mathematics among high school students (such as the MAA Dolciani Mathematics Enrichment Grant, Regional Undergraduate Mathematics Conference grant, and a Math-Science Partnership minigrant). 

    Dr. Mimbs has mentored students in undergraduate research with topics in topology, number theory, and applied mathematics.  Her students have presented their research at regional and national conferences such as the Joint Math Meetings and MathFest.  She co-directs the Mentoring Mathematicians in the Making program at Lee, a mentorship program that connects local high school students to undergraduate mathematics mentors.  She also serves as a counselor on the Council for Undergraduate Research, and has participated in NSF sponsored programs such as CURM (Council for Undergraduate Research in Mathematics), ProjectNeXT, and PIC (Preparation for Industrial Careers) Math.  Dr. Mimbs has participated in research with the Department of Homeland Security and is an invited speaker for university colloqiuia series.
