On Monday, Oct. 14, students from across the Lee University campus will come together at 8 p.m. in the Paul Dana Walker Arena to compete in Lee’s 27th annual Dorm Wars.

Dorm Wars will bring over 1500 students and guests to Walker Arena to witness fierce competition between various residence hall representatives. Lee’s Residential Life and Housing designs the event to test energy, skills, strategy, and speed in order to determine who will win, all while raising money for worthy organizations.

“We are incredibly excited about Dorm Wars 2019. Our residence halls have been preparing for weeks and will be revealing some awesome themes on Monday,” said Katie Rutkowski, event organizer and area coordinator for Residential Life and Housing. “Being able to host Dorm Wars every year is so much fun because it brings our students from across campus together, invites faculty to join in as dorm sponsors, and meets needs for our broader Cleveland community.”

The competition will pit teams of residence hall representatives against one another in a series of obstacle courses, shopping cart relay races, and a mystery event, all while raising money for nonprofit organizations benefiting the local community. Other Lee staff members will be involved as officials and scorekeepers.

“This year the mystery event will require strategy, not necessarily speed,” said Rukowski.

Along with these events, residence hall teams are scored on the opening intro routine, which each team choreographs and performs at the beginning of the event.

Each faculty sponsor and resident director will also represent their chosen dorm as they collectively participate in the obstacle course to show their team spirit.

At the end of the night, residents from one traditional female dorm, one upperclassman female dorm, and one male dorm will walk away with the coveted title of “Dorm Wars Champion.”

This year’s residence hall partnerships will benefit Bridge Refugee Services, Backyard Ministries, Boys & Girls Club, The Caring Place, Foundation House Ministries, Girls on the Run, Men and Women of Action, New Hope Pregnancy Care Center, Project Free to Fly, Street Grace, and Willow Bend Farms.

Over $2,000 has been raised so far for these organizations by Dorm Wars community sponsors, Bobby Ludwig, Brooks Screen Printing, Carroll Printing, Edward Jones, and Inman Street Coffee, along with Lee Athletics.

Admission is free and open to the public. The event will also be available for live stream viewing.
