Lamb Runs Half Marathon for New Memorial Scholarship

Lee University’s Dr. William Lamb recently completed the Cleveland Half Marathon. Lamb plans to run two more half marathons and one full marathon between now and November to raise funds for a new memorial scholarship at Lee.

Lamb, director of Lee’s Leonard Center and assistant professor of leadership development, has run in various races since 2013 to raise money for organizations such as Backyard Ministries and Serving Paraguay. This marathon season, however, his cause is closer to home as he is running in order to establish a memorial scholarship at the university in memory of his parents, Bill and Lorene Lamb.

“My parents were in ministry for 50 years,” said Lamb. “They always served people in any way they could, but never had the opportunity to attend college. I am raising money for this memorial scholarship to make college an option for people who may otherwise not have that opportunity to attend Lee.”

Lamb, a Marine Corps veteran, will run in the Marine Corps Marathon, as well as the Dalton and Air Force half marathons later this year to continue raising awareness for his cause.

“During my 15 years at Lee, I have seen firsthand that for some people college is not an option simply because of finances,” said Lamb. “I believe it is our job to work to create opportunities for others to succeed. Running is what I love to do, so I am taking that passion and using it to make a difference for other causes I support.”

The Bill and Lorene Lamb Memorial Scholarship will be geared toward first generation college students and will also be based on financial need. Lamb hopes the community will rally around his effort and help create opportunities for others. His goal is to raise $25,000 for the endowed scholarship, which will help generations to come.
