Lessons and Carols to Take Place Thursday Share Tweet Email LinkedIn 12/08/17 Top News University Wide All Inclusive Lee University’s School of Religion and School of Music will present the seventh annual Lessons & Carols on Thursday, Dec. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Lee University Chapel.“The Lessons & Carols service is a worship service that dates back more than 100 years,” said Dr. William Green, dean of the School of Music. “It is a multi-sensory experience that offers a time to reflect on and celebrate the Nativity through song and Scripture.”Faculty from the School of Religion will read nine lessons from the Old and New Testaments that traditionally tell the fall of humanity, the promise of salvation, and the birth of Jesus followed by a related carol or musical selection performed by Lee’s Chorale, directed by Green.“There are so few occasions where Christmas is celebrated with such a combination of exceptional choral music and timely Scripture reading as in the program of Lessons & Carols offered at Lee University,” said Dr. Terry Cross, dean of the School of Religion. “After each celebration in the past years, I have gone home thinking, ‘Now this is the way to begin our Christmas season.’”The interactive evening will invite guests to join in singing traditional Christmas hymns.Dr. Matthew Krepps, associate professor of chemistry at Lee, will serve as the organist for the service.The event is free of charge, but tickets are required due to limited seating.
