Wood Crowned Lee’s Homecoming Queen 2016


The Lee University student body elected Shawna Wood as Homecoming Queen 2016. She was crowned during halftime of the men’s basketball game at Lee’s annual Homecoming festivities earlier this month.

Wood was a representative of the senior class. She is the daughter of Sean and Elizabeth Wood of Knoxville, Tennessee. She is a human development major and is on the cabinet for the Student Leadership Council (SLC), is a Gateway peer leader, and is a student worker for the School of Nursing. Wood was escorted by John Piantieri.

Piantieri is the son of Sherri Oliver and John Piantieri of Acworth, Georgia. He is a communication studies major and is involved in the SLC and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).

Also representing the senior class was Abigail Christopher. She is the daughter of Grey and Sherri Christopher of Waynesville, North Carolina. Christopher, an anthropology major, is President of Omega Alpha Phi and a member of both Tau Kappa Omega and the Anthropology Club. She is an Appalachian College Association Ledford Scholar as well as a Gateway peer leader. Christopher was escorted by Josh Clark.

Clark is the son of Michael and Leslie Clark of Ooltewah, Tennessee. He is a youth ministry major, a Gateway peer leader, a member of Tau Kappa Omega, Delta Zeta Tau, and the FCA.

Another representative of the senior class was MacKenzie Clinton. She is the daughter of Bill and Crystal Clinton of Hendersonville, Tennessee. Clinton, an international business major, is a Gateway peer leader and is involved in SLC, Omega Alpha Phi, and Big Pal Little Pal. She was escorted by Clay Parris.

Parris is the son of Randall and Rhonda Parris from Cleveland, Tennessee. He is an English secondary education major as well as president of Alpha Gamma Chi, a member of Sigma Tau Delta, and a student worker in the Student Development Office.

Representing the junior class was Kiersten Powers. She is the daughter of Tim and Ellen Powers of Lovettsville, Virginia. She was escorted by Elijah Hammonds. Hammonds is the son of Terry and Yvonne Hammonds of Newark, Ohio.

Also a representative of the junior class was Anna Davis. She is the daughter of Bill and Danielle Davis of Greenville, South Carolina. Davis was escorted by Harrison Gray. Gray is the son of Chris and Becky Gray of Greenback, Tennessee.

Representing the sophomore class was Emily Gates. She is the daughter of Richard and Beth Gates of Cumming, Georgia. Gates was escorted by Nik Piantieri. Piantieri is the son of Sherri Oliver and John Piantieri of Acworth, Georgia.

The second representative of the sophomore class was Mannah Berg. She is the daughter of Anthony and Bethany Berg of Ballground, Georgia. Berg was escorted by Christian Brooks. Brooks is the son of Terry and Shelly Brooks of Monroe, Georgia.

Representing the freshman class was Kelsi Gill. She is the daughter of Mark and Gayla Gill of Sebastopol, Mississippi. Gill was escorted by Oliver Conn. Conn is the son of Brian and Kelly Conn of Cleveland, Tennessee.

Also representing the freshman class was Adaira Ott. She is the daughter of Darin and Courtney Scarbrough of Knoxville, Tennessee. Ott was escorted by Joseph Whittington. Whittington is the son of Joe and Patty Whittington of Raleigh, North Carolina.
