According to The Telegraph, “‘Treasure Island’ is the answer to every adventure-starved child’s prayers; a racy, pacy, tough-as-old-boots adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s swashbuckling classic!” “Treasure Island” won the 2009 American Alliance for Theatre and Education (AATE) Distinguished Play Award for Best Adaptation. Dan Buck, assistant professor of theatre at Lee, will direct the production. According to Buck, the play is quite accessible, but keeps some of the language and colorful characters of the original novel. “‘Treasure Island’ is an exciting production for us,” said Buck. “It’s one of the most action-packed plays we’ve ever done here. We even hired a fight choreographer because of the stage combat.”Lead characters Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver will be played by Chelsea Boelter and Kyle Waters, respectively. Serena Wright and Lucy Southwell will serve as stage manager and assistant stage manager, while Catherine Wilford will serve as costume designer.“This play will appeal to everyone.” said Buck. “It’s thrilling, touching, and loaded with spectacle. It’s going to be fun!”Tickets are available at the box office located in the Communication Arts Building Monday through Friday, 3-6 p.m., and in the Dixon Center box office one hour prior to each show.
