The School of Music at Lee University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in music theory to begin in August of 2018. To be considered for a position at the level of Assistant Professor or higher, candidates must have an earned doctorate in music theory or related area. Candidates holding an appropriate master’s degree may be considered for a position in our non-tenure, lecturer track. Individuals from underrepresented populations are strongly encouraged to apply.

Duties will include teaching courses in music theory and aural skills, as well as other courses reflecting the successful candidate’s expertise and needs of the School, such as applied lessons or coaching of chamber music. Additional responsibilities include scholarly activities appropriate to teaching faculty, mentoring and advising students as assigned, university and/or community service, curriculum development, reporting to Department Chair, and working cooperatively with other members of the faculty.

Qualifications of the ideal candidate include the following: a completed doctoral degree in music theory, a record of successful teaching of music theory to undergraduate music students, evidence of or potential to develop significant scholarship in the field, an interest in working with students of varying backgrounds and interests, and a commitment to Christian higher education and the integration of faith with teaching/learning. Graduate-level work in an applied area is desirable but not required.
